| newbie | E30/M20 Low speed stutter + Surging at Idle Hi Folks, 1992 E30 325iC/M20 (55k original miles) - The title says most of the problem. Car started to stutter after a hard acceleration, then stalled when pulled into a parking lot. Wouldn't start for about 20 minutes. Finally got it started & limped home. CEL blinked 1261 (Fuel Pump Relay) so I got a new relay from the dealer and put it in. Now it starts OK and seems to run fine under load (80+mph with no stutter) - but at low speed with light accelerator load, I get a pronounced 3-4 bump stutter intermittently. At a standing idle, it surges consistently from 500 to 1500 rpm and back every 3 seconds or so. It doesn't ever hold a constant idle - it's always somewhere on its way to 1500 rpm or returning to 500 - then surges again. I there anything obvious or familiar to anyone before I start the full diagnostic process? |
