guess what happened to my M30 !

so...as i told you guys i had bad noises com ing from my e30m30....i did a valve adjustment. problem was still there. so i finally proceeded to pull the front of the motor off....took the upper timing cover off after pulling the rad again.. removed the 17mm for the tensioner spring a piston and thought something looked wierd after removing that.

the wierd zinging noise and slight missfire sound coming from the exhaust was the "sheared off" top section of the tensioner arm(about a 10" long curved cast arm thats fixed on the bottom(near the crank) and a piston pushes a certain amount of pressure on the top(closest to the head))

yup! cast metal sheard and the only thing holding it together was the 1/8" thick rubber coating to prevent "metal on metal friction"!

cause???? if you throw a chip in an m30 car. dont show of and blip the throttle to the max(prob around 7500rpm)

yes another stupid mistake by a dumb 21 year old yet i now know never to do it again. im just glad i didnt spin a bearing or something.

i vote we have a meet in a couple weeks again so i can finally be apart of one without feeling shitty about my broken car ! lol

Glad you found it. I ahhhhh don't think an M30 is designed to rev to 7500rpm.

Yeah, it sounds amazing... once!

At least there's no serious damage to the m30. You can repair it without taking the engine out or seriously apart.

Better not to take risk with your expensive car. Its better to go to a local body shop
