1988 E28 M5

A friend of mine is contemplating selling his 1988 E28 M5 5 speed. Absolutely beautiful black with rare black interior (only 36 came to Canada with black interior) 90% came with Natur, beige color. This car has 120,000 km on it with full history. Brand new 17" stock M5 BMW BBS type wheels with new Pirelli rubber. (wheels were stolen so ICBC replaced them) Original body panels and paint. I think it has around 268 hp but could be wrong.
Anyone know what it might be worth? I want this car....

They are worth between 12 and 20k depending on the condition. One warning is that at about 160,000km they usually need a timing chain replacement, and usually it make sense to do a full rebuild of the engine since it's all apart. Reserve a better part of 10,000 for a quality rebuild..... Many of them have more mileage without a timing chain replacement and run fine though.

I wonder if it's the same one Vince almost bought. There can't be too many black on black E28 M5's running around.

This car is very sick and original. I was out at Al's getting my tires fitted today and one of his customers has a mint E28 M5 exactly the same as my friends but 180,000 km on it. Very very nice but I have to say my friends is nicer. I will convince him to come out to a drive next time there is an event.
