NEED Fuel Pump for 91 318

My Car is down for the moment, the mechanic has quoted me $500 just for the new fuel pump. I should be getting a quote tomorrow for the labor.

Does anyone have a fuel pump I could buy from them, I really don't want to sink much $ into this car as I want to make it into a project when we start leasing a new car within the next year...

thanks,
Ty

If you don't mind a used one for much cheaper, check here. http://www.bimmerclassics.net/forum/...ead.php?t=4991

Real OEM says the 318i and N/A 318is use the same pump. Tim may still have his from his wrecked 318is. DIY in 1/2 hour. get new O-ring though.

You can get a new one from bmaparts.com for $265 USD. Comes close to $330 cdn w/ exchange rate and border taxes. If it's going to be a project car in the future, wouldn't you want a pump that you knew was new or in good condition?

My pump died on me when I was at SFU once, that really sucked. I live in Richmond too. I think I paid over $400 for a new pump at the mechanics...

there ya go. Now RUN to Tims and buy his used pump instead of paying your mechanic $500 for a $300 pump.......

Fu...dge my fuel pump is different than the North AMerican 318's I guess.
The return line ends inside the pump's top, the N/A return line extends out of the top of the top cover and then uses tubing to return to the tank.

I plan on just plugging up this line and installing it, but thought I should throw up a post just in case this is a bad idea.... going to try it and see how it goes but I'll check back here before I put the seats back in...

thanks

I believe so, this is my first bmw so I am not sure, this is what it looks like, only much much dirtier. I had nothing to clamp the return hose with permanently, so my vice grips are doing a temporary job

Got it in...it has started on every attempt so far without stalling out, or without the rev's going up and down, and is driving with no problems so problem solved... now for an O ring and some kind of stop for that extra return tube.... gonna have to wait till tomorrow
