FS: BMW Motorsport Spark Plug Socket

If anyone is looking for a spark plug socket for the early Motorsport engines (M88, S14, S38), or for several BMW Motorcycle models, someone on e-Bay is offering the Snap-On version for $12.95 + $5.95 shipping. Go to http://www.ebay.com and search for:
  • SNAP-ON 3/8" DR 11/16" SPARK PLUG SOCKET 6Pt S9727K NEW

If these are really the right Snap-On socket, then this is a terrific deal. I've purchased probably about a dozen Hazet 880 A Mg T-3 sockets for myself and friends and they were always $45 or more. The factory BMW tool, 12 1 160, was $140 a few years ago.

From an e-mail on the E30 M3 Digest I found out that the Mastercraft 58-8909-6 18mm Spark Plug Socket from Canadian Tire will also work on the S14. It was $8, and the Canadian Tire in Coquitlam had one in stock!

But it doesn't have that sweet little magnet in it!

Speaking of spark plugs, BMW has gone and reinvented them again. The N54 engine(335i) uses a 14mm 12 point socket, with a micro thin wall.

Considering what's happening with new BMWs, does this new spark plug weigh twice as much as the earlier ones?

It in fact weighs about the same as a conventional spark plug, BUT it takes twice as long to change.

And yes, it will last the car's lifetime. Lifetime these days menaing, "until the warranty expires".
