That price is pretty high, as you can get a evo2 with about 75k miles over here from the UK for the same price, incl shipping at 2500-3000. BMWCAR magazine had a Macau blue Cecotto for sale a few months back with 60?k miles on it for 11k pounds. With the dollar @50c to th #, thats 22000 (car only) for one of only 480 ever made, and in a great rare colour.
The closer to stock it is, the more valuable it is to collectors. That said, someone who is not a Bmw Fanatic, may just love the car as it is and drop down the dough for it, but i'll take it closer to how the factory built it.

Which is a shame, really.

The prices that people are asking (and paying) for vehicles up here is almost completely ridiculous now. For even $23,000 + taxes, that M3 had best be absolutely spotless and I should be able to eat my dessert off of the engine block.

Case in point: I'm currently searching for an Audi S4 Avant in the '01-'03 range as a daily runabout. After taxes, the importation fees involved and taking into consideration our strong dollar, I'll easily be saving 8-9K $$ over any Canadian seller out there (even privately sold examples) by simply shopping across the border into Washington.

^^ i was looking for my M3 over the boarder, and even with the dollar being "high" and so on, i found the savings wasnt really worth the hassle (in my case, the M3's in the states were 13-15 grand, exchange, Tax's, Duty, inspections, bumpers needed to be upgraded) i paid just over what i would have if i imported it (i acctually had one ready to bring in,sheets and all, but found a good deal in Vancouver).

--mind you, it will be different per car, but just my experience.

Oh definitely, it will most assuredly be different per car. Plus, it's diffcult to gauge how much your exact car would have been up for sale for, down South.

The rarer Premium sportscars (M3, M5, M6, AMG, Audi S-line, etc.) are always ridiculously overpriced up here based on the fact of their sheer obscurity up here. An '06 RS4 will be almost $10,000 more up here compared to the prices across the border. Then again, there is always going to be more selection across the border into Washington State and beyond. The thing is though, no matter what, you'll be forced to pay taxes whether buying on either side of the fence. So, aside from the miniscule exchange rate difference, duty and the $100 inspection fee, you'll be easily saving thousands in most cases.

I've imported cars across the line before. It's never been a hassle. Just do your homework, know what to expect and have everything properly in-line and ready! I even imported a '72 240z 3 years ago and I ended up saving myself thousands of dollars over what people wanted for their rustbuckets up here in Canada. But once again though, in this case the rarity of the vehicle in this country commands a higher price-tag.

Partial thread hi-jack here, but do you still have the 240z? Great car. i had a '72 240Z when i was in high school a few years back. Great car when i got it, better with the Chev 350 4-speed .... ummm...... worse with the bent frame due to not beefing it up after the swap and tuning.
But back to the real thread here, my m3 has twice the mileage on it, but i only paid 12000, taxes in. That leaves me 11000 to blow on.......well..... anything.
Granted, mine will never be a show car, (11000 into it, and it probably could be) but these things were meant to be driven, and driven HARD!!! I could buy 2 more e30's with the difference.
Hmmmmm............ anyone have spare garage space?

Hey! Another 240z-nut..!

Tsk tsk though... a common no-no with owners/tuners of these old sportscars. Must remember to reinforce the structure (and lots of other areas too) if you're going to drop in a big, stonking, torque-hungry V8 into an old Datsun..!!

Great car though. Had a phenomenal time restoring it and sourcing/learning all about it, etc. Would do it again in a heartbeat. I sold mine a year and a half ago to a great fella out in Maple Ridge. We're still in contact to this day. One day soon I'll go visit and take it for a spin again.

So, since the thread is jacked already.... I won't mind sharing some pics with you of my old 240z...!

Blake

I am absolutely blown away by that 240Z. An incredible example of one of my favourite cars, period. A few details please, history, work done etc. And thanks for sharing it with us.
