| Guest Posts: n/a | 1988 E28 M5 1988 M5 > This 1988 e28 M5 is one of a very limited production –It is rare and remains a classic to this day. It is in superb condition. > Black / Tan 113,000 miles (only 6,500 miles a year) I am the 3rd 2 owner (first owner for 16 years) I looked for 5 years for the best M5 that I could find, this is it, you will not be disappointed in this one! From bumper to bumper car is in pristine condition > Never in an accident or damaged in any way The original owner was a BMW fanatic. He maintained this car in incredible shape and put many thousands in it in upgrades. This car was and is pampered. > Original horsepower was 256. After rebuild it is now 325 hp. > All owners are very experienced drivers, so rest assured the car was not driven recklessly. > CA smog approved > Non-smoker car Engine was rebuilt by Frank Fahey just over 20,000 miles ago. Nothing was drastically wrong with the motor to need a repair. Previous owner just wanted the car in perfect shape. The engine was NOT rebuilt due to it being "blown". The original owner kept this car in perfect mechanical condition. He simply wanted it to perform and handle better. He accomplished that with increased horsepower from 256 to 325. This car has NEVER been abused. Engine Specs:Complete Rebuilt by Frank Fahey, engine completely dismantled/reassembled at 88,791 miles, current mileage 113,000= roughly 24K miles on rebuild. New Dinan cam sprocket Crank/rods polished, new bearings, timing chain, gaskets etc…. New forged J&E pistons 11.5:1 compression Head fully rebuilt, new valves, guides etc…. New radiatorNew drive shaft New air flow meter New clutch. Fahey Crank Hub Total cost of rebuilt $17,155.00 I have three chips to choose from for the ECU: Original, Dinan Chip, and Jim Conforti. Currently the Conforti chip is installed. I still have the two previous chips. In addition to the work above, an auxiliary fan was added for extra cooling capacity, A/C blows cold, heater valve recently replaced, thus heater blows hot, the heater motor “whines” a little on low speeds, I understand this is very common. Suspension: The suspension was fully rebuilt at the time of the engine rebuild, this included Dinan Stage 1 kit, which eliminated the SLS system. New ball joints in 2000. Bilstein shocks. BRAKES:Brakes Completely rebuilt 750i rotors in front, new pads, rebuilt calipers Total Cost for Suspension and Brakes $4,818.00 RIMS:BBS/ASA wheels – only 12 months old > Michelin Pilot Sport tires – 235/45/17 – 12 months old (exceptional tires) > $1,800.00 PAINT:Paint In outstanding shape. Was totally repainted in 1997 due to car wash brushes. Front fenders repainted in 2001. There are a few minor road chips on the lower front part of the hood. Body In perfect shape. Never hit or in an accident. Cannot even find the smallest of dents on the car. The front air dam is slightly cracked, but is in solid shape. Front and read bumpers are in great shape. When the car was painted, all trim was removed along with all of the windows, this was a quality re-spray. INTERIOR:Interior in great shape. Passenger seat and back seat in outstanding shape only very minor scratches. The only place where wear is evident is on the left side bolster of the driver’s seat and the drivers door panel. This happens with most e28’s. Wear is not bad, but noticeable. Rest of driver’s seat is in good condition. All functions of the electric seats work well. Dash is in perfect shape without cracks. Door panels and headliner are in excellent shape. Sound System Alpine system that has XM Radio. Plays CDs but not MP3’s – 12 month XM subscription included. New European M-style 3 spoke steering wheel, original included as well. ADDITIONAL UPGRADES:Korman Adjustable Short Shifter:Euro headlights:Fahey Track pipeCustom Full car coverDrink holder (I know this doesn’t seem like a bit item, but this one is great) Dinan badge on trunk is not from Dinan. It takes 10 points to earn the badge, the second owner bought this badge and it is not OEM Dinan. BMW reset toolBatteries replaced on service computer SUMMARY Again, the car is in exceptional condition. Never driven hard. The original owner was 52, the second owner was 53 and I am in my early 30’s . Seeing the car shows a great deal of consideration and care was put in to this MI am reluctantly offering this car for sale as I have come to the realization that I don’t need such a beautiful car. I am asking $18,500.00. I will have the car smog tested if sold in CA. If sold out of CA, emissions is up to the buyer. The car is located south of San Francisco on the peninsula. I have every maintenance record for this car, you won’t be disappointed. I will accept cash/bank checks for purchase only, let me clarify, don’t offer a bank check from another country etc…. no SCAMMERS!!!!!! The car is available for test drives for serious buyers only, no tire kickers or joy riders please. It pains me to sell, but I have owner this car for 11 months and have put less than 2000 miles on it, I need to let it go to someone who will enjoy the car. Believe me you will be hard pressed to find a nice M5 than this one, over $21,000.00 in recent maintenance, essentially this is a new 1988 M5.I am willing to consider partial trades for one of the following: 1991 318is (5spd), 1991 325is (5 spd) 1991 325/318ic (5 spd), or 325ix (5 spd). | Senior Member Supporting Member | A fellow in my building had a '88 M5 with Black seats/interior... ... man was it pretty... I'd love to flog one for a day. So to clarify, the M5s that came to Canada did have a black interior? it was just the USA cars that were all tan interiors? If I had the big bank roll and the airplane hanger garage I think I'd have those seats re-done in dark, dark red leather. |
