Car hard to get into gear (89 325 - 5spd)

Hi all.

I couldn't get my car in gear today. Turning the car off I was able to get it in gear and move it. Then it was fine. Any ideas? The tranny sounds a little grumbly.

Can't be I've never used it! - sorry couldn't resist.

It does let out high. But isn't slipping and holds until red line.

Also why would it not work then work? Slipping? Beyond there wear point so the slave wasn't able to do it's job?

TIA

Craig.

Well, the reason i said clutch was. .

I had a datsun that the clutch would never slip but its shot to head was sudden impossible shifts and grinding unless i speed matched and shifted without the clutch. I could only get it in first with the car not running. One shop said it was the servos in the tranny, then the next place said the clutch was non existent. That was it. These trannys are very tough, but do fail on the rare occasion. Hows the fluid in the tranny?

I'll try swapping out the fluid. See if any shaved gears are in it. What do I replace it with? Decline mtl? And how much 2quarts?

Possibly check your tranny and engine mounts, could be worn down completely causing your engine or tranny to sit at an awkward angle.

hmm, good idea but not too likely. I have IE urethane in for both engine and tranny. Worth a look though.

I've pretty much decided to part her out and start fresh with a new shell this winte anyway, she's just too scummy looking to keep on the streets of kits, heck she's too rough for Surrey (couldn't resist)!
