Scratched glass

Hey guys, as you can guess by the title i got a big line scratch across my windshield from a shovel. Don't ask but it just happend and my heart stopped.
I was hoping any of you guys have any DIY tips on glass scratch fix up. I looked up some on the web from Toothpaste to Nail Polish remover. I was wondering if you have something that works that you guys know of.
Thanks
Justin

take the same shovel and hit the windshield really hard. Then proceed to your nearest auto glass repair shop and fill in the claim form, pay your deductable and drive away with a new windshield!!!

Just kidding of course.....I really doubt there is much you'll beable to do about it. As a last resort I would suggest using liquid rubbing compound and a power buffer followed up with some regular polish........I don't know if it will, it may be worth a try I guess....

anyone with another suggestion out there?

there is such thing as "glass polish compound" its powerful stuff and you can get it from capilano stone and gem... use an buffer or a drill with a foam pad and it should greatly reduce the appearance of the scratch

scrached glass

the only thing u have to watch is if u buff the scratch out u will distort the glass. but it wil take out the scratch depending on how bad. I know I work for a glass company.

well there ya go... yeah those polish's are great, but really they are better for HL lens's because you dont have to see through them right

What does this polish compound do to the pits in the glass, make it worse or better?

I dont know about hand polishing, do you have a drill? if so then get a small foam pad from lordco to attach to it (it will work better than hand polishing)

and as for pitting, i dont know how well it would work, but i know on lenses so badly pitted light output is bad it can hurt right?

If it impairs your vision then it is a legitimate claim through ICBC.
