Central locking issues

hey guys:

its been a while since i've tapped into the wealth of knowledge on the forum here.... so

today for the very first time i go to lock my doors using the driver side key hole... as per usual. and none of the other doors lock, i pop the hood check the fuses none of them are blown, with the hood still open i hear a strange noise only when i go to lock the doors its a strange whirring noise and still none of the other doors or trunk lock, i have tried it from all doors and the trunk and no luck. so. my question is what fuse/relay is associated with the central locking system and has anyone had this problem before

thanks in advance

Colin...

There is a central lock control module that is located by the driver foot panel just below the speaker they often go bad that sounds like the culprit.

you can actually open it up and clean the contacts, its pretty much a bunch of relay contacts. mine went bad once i tok it out popped it open and could see that one of the contacts was welded together i just cleaned it up and it woked fine again

Probably got wet you should take it out look at it, and clean as necessary to prevent future damage.

DS Rook, I was thinking the same thing. You can pull apart the large electrical connector in the driver's door jamb and clean up the contacts. Or so I hear - I haven't been able to get mine apart and I don't want to break the darn thing.

check big connector in door/frame (21 pin) if it working randomly, if it never does take out control unit and surely the internal fuse is gone (a vertical plated, unmarket thing with 2 soldering legs)

Jono-vision's pictures

In the E28's(as far as I've been told) the central locking unit control module is located on the Passenger side above the speaker, mine will malfunction in wet weather, I have yet to fix it. It's a ******* to get to.

if it is not the door connector (usual problem), take control unit and open it; there is an unmarked fuse that might be open (this happens when system is used too many times in a row); just jump it and you are in biz...
