Question BMW Steering Wheel Refinishing. Anyone Know How?

I recently installed an mtech 1 wheel in my car and I am less than satisfied with its condition. Has anyone ever refinished a leather wheel before? I know that Sha1234 did his using black trim paint (forgot the brand name) but before I go that way I want to know if there are any other options. I would prefer some sort of DIY solution if possible. Thanks!

How bad is it? Cracked, worn or ripped?

I heard people doing some great stuff with Leatherique and their sport seats might work with the steering wheel? http://www.leatherique.com/

But maybe it's a good excuse to go get a MtecII steering wheel. Those are the win for sure!

Its just worn. I would go with the tecII but I can never find one for a decent price. Thanks for the suggestion, do you know where I could get that product locally?

Hey Liam are regreting giving me yours?
Call me if you want it back.

If you want to recover it Theres a place on Clark that will sell the leather in any colour you want for $85 if you do the stitching yourself.

Ben and I trust by this solution always, SEM trim black with 800 grit paper to smooth out the edges... recently we got a CAR BRITE upholstery paint (black) and that stuff works just as well if not better... its scary i know... but MAN does it look good

No not at all Tom!! I knew the condition of this one before I gave you yours it's just a slight annoyance now that I have to look at it everyday!! That's not a bad price for the new leather but I think I want to try the Sha1234 solution before I shell out the cash and start looking for a sewing granny!

+1 to Leatherique, but you'll have to order it from the guy in Ontario who's the Canadian distributor (I don't have the link handy, but it comes up easy in Google).

With proper prep, Leatherique will give you a like-factory finish on leather. It won't peel or cause any additional long term damage either. Unfortunately it's expensive, but they do sell in small amounts - ideal for other touch ups.

If its just a bit grey and discolored, I've heard of people using black shoe polish to liven it up.
