Adjusting Kickdown Cable

Could anyone post up a how-to of adjusting this cable?

The new to me E30 will never kick down, and it seems to 'shudder' on acceleration, unless I use the 1-2-3 to hold it down, if I do this to mimic a proper pattern its smooth as silk.

I'll head to a shop if I have to but I'd rather just do it myself.

Thanks.

Keir.

Actually, I figured out how to adjust it.

Should there be any slack in any of the other cables? IE throttle or cruise?
