fuel pump is noisy!

hey so i have a 1982 320i. with the turbo, i noticed that when i reach 4200rpm, my power completely dissapears. which is dissapointing because my speed comes from the higher regions of the power band. so my question for you guys is

my fuel pump is extremely noisy! no grinding or anything, but a fairly loud whine. i dont usually notice it because i have the engine runnin' hard, or musicn pounding dangerously loud. so to get another prospective i shot a video of me starting it up and moving it aroud the interior. i have no back seats ( i took them out to re-apolster them). so im wondering, would m lack of fuel be because of a bad fuel pump. if its this loud, does that mean its bad?

The noisy pump is a sign that failure is not far off. You need to check the fuel pressure at the rail to know whether it's just noise or if the pump is not preforming. That said, in my experience, pump failure is almost always binary... It either works, or it doesn't.

Do you know for a fact that the car is leaning out at high RPM or is that just a guess?

Cheers.

i can almost damn well gurantee its leaning. in all gears (excluding 1st), when i reach 4200-4500rpm, it sounds like i red line, and i have a fall on your face lack of power

i am running 10psi on stock fuel components. i replaced the fuel filter but that didn't help. i should be running the WUR from the turbo volvo 240, as well as the vacuum canister to retard spark. but the lack of fuel is the best reason i can come up with for the fall on your face lack of power. i know i am losing some boost pressure out of my exhaust mani gasket, so i'd like to replace that one day, but i doubt that will fix it

Your poor pistons... I'm no turbo expert but I can't image the stock injectors on an M10 can flow enough fuel to support 10 PSI of boost...
