Can I refinish these wheels myself?

What would be involved? The body is in great shape on all 4, but the lips have years of almost a growth on them. They are genuine BMW BBS wheels if that makes a difference.

im looking at buying them for the 540 but want to know what i'm getting into first.

Weeman did his own work on his set of Borbet A's and they came out pretty nice from what the pics tell. I would say yes depending on the initial cost of the wheels.

About 700 with tires, about 50% on tires... don't really care about the tires.

I have been down that road with Greens and it wasn't cheap. On the other hand what would a set of those new or in mint shape cost?

They look like 3 series Type 42 which won't fit on a 5er?

Don't forget to try Nubrite

They are 18" 5 series style 42's . Currently on an e39 540.

I'm going to give Nubrite a call.

Those wheels came on both the Z3 in high offset and 5 series in et20 as standard in 17". The 5 series 18" are pretty rare I believe. Nice wheels, I was looking into a set for my car before i found the style 5's. I don't see why you can't refinish them yourself, although if you don't want the tires, 700 is a bit much for them in that shape I think. Sets pop up on Bimmerforums from time to time in mint to great shape for around 900 with tires.

Well, i'll use the tires, they won't go to waste, or I'll sell them.

I'm thinking of offering a little less. The 18s are pretty rare, I've seen 17's come up before, but not 18s...

Try Panther or Nu-Brite. I called those places so far. You can send them pics and they will get you prices.

If I wanted to do this myself, what is involved? I mean, is it just sanding and sanding and then clear coat?
