| Senior Member | I dont think they have the majority of those cars landed in Canada, if you look at the pictures most of the backgrounds are the same and in details a lot of them say in transit or held with deposit. My guess is most of the cars are in Japan so you may have to add shipping, duties, PST, GST, and MVI. From my experience PST,GST and duties are around 20%, better make sure the cars are landed and certified for Canada |

| Member | the neighbour of a guy i used to work with did the jdm import thing he brought over mostly porsche 928's and MB's. there were some e30's available from the auction he used, thing is after shipping and taxes and duties you added around $3000-$4000 onto the price and that is starting with a car that cost around $4000. and you never really know what will happen to the car in shipping, he had a couple cars vandalized while they waited in the shipping yard |

| Senior Member | I have imported over 10 cars from Japan, rite now it is very difficult to find a good deal. The prices in Japan have risen and the Japanese Yen is very strong against the Dollar. Add shipping, GST, PST, Duties, MVI and necessary repairs, and it is too expensive. The Yen used to be approximately 1 cent Canadian, it is now around 1.4 cents Canadian, a car that used to cost 10,000.00 is now 14,000.00 plus now you pay the addition costs in taxes and duties, it compounds the costs all the way along. Too add insult to injury the Canadain used car market has sunk, Mercedes Benaz SL500's used to go for between 20-25 for a real nice one, you cant give the same car away now for 15. I have a real clean 1992 M5 with 65,000 documented km, at one point could have been worth over 20 to the rite person, if i had to unload it today, i would be lucky to get 12, very tough market!!!!! |

| Member | The prices of new cars have also dropped in the last couple of years. The new car dealers don't want to see import car from other countries such as US, Japan, and Europe. In addition Transport Canada is reviewing the regulations pertaining to vehicle importation, possibly increase the 15 year rule to 25 years. |

| Senior Member | Regarding the used car market, it's of course all a matter of supply and demand. When the Canadian dollar was high, there were a ton of US and JDM vehicles flowing into our market, thus making 'cheap' US cars or, lower milage and/or fairly interesting JDM cars somewhat common. Hence the drop in price. I believe that with the lower Cdn dollar, and far less coming in, I think the market will slowly rebound. There will come a point where there will no longer be 3 or 4 e34 M5s for sale at any given time, and some of the ones that came in will have been abused (even more so as their value has dropped), ill-maintained, or wrecked, making the survivors that much more rare and hence valuable. If the CDN dollar remains low, the early-mid 2000s (years) might even become known as the JDM heyday, just like the Gray-Market heyday of the 80s in the States. Of course the current economy throws all this out the window, but should things get back even close to normal, the free fall in prices will stop, and things will begin to go up again in value - like Brian's 65k M5 - which I think could still get 15k today or more...its really nice! What will it be worth in 5, 10, or 15 years? |

| Member | from what i know and since i know two guys working with tyeeimports, they actually do have most cars not imported yet,you can pick something out and theyll bring it over, which most people wouldnt like probably since you like to see your car before you buy it but this guys have a great rep in my eyes cause all the cars ive seen them bring over and all the ones my friends have bought were in superb condition with rather low kms and pretty dame good prices, its not a bad idea to buy from these guys at all |

| Senior Member | If your paying cash up front its your gamble, not theirs, they are not going to loose you can be guaranteed of that. If they are reputable, that is good, and if they have a competent buyer set up in Japan even better, but its still a gamble with a used car you cant even see or drive. |
