190e Vs. E30

Any 190e Owners here? Any one know any forums?

Looking into picking one up, how does it compare to the E30... I've heard it's not nearly as sporty but much more solid and it gets 30 MPG (2.3L manual).

Cheers
Ben

I've always liked them. Manuals are rare and I think parts are more expensive compared to e30's.
Really nice cars though.

My mother has a 2.6L straight 6. Absolutely bulletproof like a Mercedes should be. Engine is smooth like butter. Classic Mercedes style neck-snapper of an automatic trans. Nothing more to say, though. Perhaps it's the color (ready? Brown.) that keeps me from appreciating it more.

I don't think there are as many parts heavens out there for the 190E as there are for the E30, so parts have always been expensive for it.

I've heard that the 2.3L is a very different beast from the 2.6.

Actually, you guys are mistaken... parts for the 190e are almost equal to Bmw E30 actually I think they're cheaper. Primarily because there's a lot more of them around and it was a really popular car back in the day ( E30 is an enthusiast car; 190e not so much) .

I'm considering it because so many e30's are beaten down and I already have an e30 and I'm looking for something different. Just search 190e on Craigslist, there's tons and I saw 3-4 under 100,000 kms. Which is pretty cool.

It's true a manual is rare but if you do find one it could be an interesting beast. I met a guy that has a 1992 190e 2.6L manual. He also owns a 1992 318ic (E30), he says his 190e is a total drivers car and reminds him a lot of his E30.

Actually I thought the same thing but the 190e only weight's about 150 lbs more than a 325i... it also has a lot more technology....

you can also get a 16V 2.3L version which is rare but apparently it's very comparable to the late model E30 318i

Isn't the 16v 2.3 more comparable to the m3? Don't those come with the Cosworth head?

2.5 16V is comparable to the M3

The Sports Evolution II is the 240HP.. that was developed to compete with the 2.5L M3 Sport Evolution

My pop's just picked up 1992 2.5 Cosworth and unfortunately it's auto but the car is super clean with only 90,000 kms. There's going to be a couple coming up forsale in a weeks time. Just keep your eyes peals on craigslist and buysell.

Are you here to ask for an opinion, or to give a presumption? I've sourced parts for my mom's for anything from window switch to radiator to timing chain kit. It's really is not as cheap as the E30 to run, new parts wise. Of course, from the yard, it's all fair game.

But again, I do value your opinion if it's about MB parts in general, as you had a W126. I've heard that MB has a pledge to keep old cars on the road and thus parts for old beasts are generally at cut throat prices...but I've never attempted to source parts for the 190E from the stealers...I wouldn't know. Any comments on that?

Probably a very incredible machine, but the cockpit doesn't do it for me. I disclaim again that I could be biased because of how boring my mother's 2.6 looks. Still a strong car, just never going up any "ass" sets.

Nevermind, I don't know all the intricacies of MB and the w201.... I thought 2.3 16v = 185hp and Cosworth Head.........which would not be as powerful as an E30 M3, but def not a shitter either.....
