the unwanted car i wanted

i picked up this 1988 bmw 325is in asperations to flip it to get money for my other project ... 1969 datsun 510

but then i fell in love with the car and got stuck with school and other bullshit

it needed front lip, paint on bumper and fender, driver side glass and motor ....

picked it up for cheap

its been sitting in my garage for the past year since i have been bouncing between schools, career paths and jobs. i started working at a hospital a couple months ago so now i am getting a stead flow

i should be done pretty soon

the mess of car parts in the garage

the car

tan interior

black interior progress

honda s2000 seats

guage pod

getting ready to put the motor back in finally

also picked up a full set of bbs rx that are getting mailed from Wisconsin with tires ... should be here on monday

-------------------------------------------------

when i am done with putting the motor in and get everything running ... i am going to be putting alot of stuff for sale .. so check for it

i know for sure i have 2 heads ... one ones rebuilt and cleaned, milled and checked ... the other one was pulled off a motor with a blown headgasket .. could use the head being milled but all in all good shape

its a 1969 datsun 510 .. my original love .. pics when i first got it 4 years ago .... found some rust in quarter panels, bondo was cracking and the body was eating itseld ... been tryin to restore it since ..

so ill probably sell the e30 in the near future to get the datsun in the body shop

plans are sr20det, keep original wheels, go back to regular fenders instead of the bubble fenders

that is just a beautiful 510! i wanted one even more than my current bimmer. but in richmond, they are WAY overpriced (since our....err...'racial' makeup drives up the prices for old import cars)

I've all but given up on finding a 510 project car. They are becoming rare, and when one does pop up, you've gotta have a pretty hefty bankroll. the search is ongoing.

From wikipedia "The Datsun 510 or P510/PL510 was a series of the Nissan Bluebird sold from 1968 to 1974, and offered outside the U.S. as the Datsun 1600. According to AutoWeek's G.D. Levy, The 510 has often been called the "poor man's BMW." The 510's engineering was inspired by contemporary European sedans, particularly the 1966 BMW 1600-2, incorporating an SOHC engine, MacPherson strut suspension in front and independent, semi-trailing arms in back.[1] The European-influenced sheet metal design is attributed to a young Datsun in-house designer, Teruo Uchino." i had a 310 for a couple years, what a workhorse, first car i really loved. Beat the **** out it on the daily. like an abusive husband.

oh yeah ... timing belt and water pump were changed out .... next up will be the oil pan and rear main crank seal ...

dont mind the bird poop welds .. lol ... had to modify the x pipe so that i can go to a single pipe .... catalytic convert should be coming this week ....

had to cut it .. split it .... and then put some plates inbetween .. and then weld it back together and then weld the y pipe ..... i need more practice welding .. but its only exhaust ... not a roll bar or cross member .. lol !

progress:

since you guys dont have a work log type section .. ill just keep posting here

got some progress with the e30 ...

fully reassembled engine ... bought new bolts for the missing bolts ...

dropped motor in ... fits in perfectly ...

hooked up transmission crossmember and slave cylinder ...

test fitted headers .... hit on transmission tunnel a little bit ...

ran harness and hooked it up

still alot to go but very simple stuff .. hard work is done

need to put new wheels on ... but whatever .... i am happy its at its stance it use to be .. forgot it was so low .. and happy i bought custom skid plate ..

stripped the interior again ... im going to the junk yard to pick up a gray carpet ... maybe ... the carpet is wet and moldy .. YUCK!

i felt like hooking up the car with some bling ... so i put the bbs rx on .. and the front lip ......... a huge difference .... ill take some pics with the car outside the garage when it stops raining .. whenever that is

before:

after

need to bend out the front valence ... the lip doesnt want to sit right .. just something else to do i guess ..
