The 6er's new stance

Gentlemen,

Well, I finally got around to installing the H&R lowering springs on the 6er a couple of weeks back after procrastinating with it througout the Fall.

Needless to say, I'm rather impressed with how the hunkered-down, more-rigid, aggressive and tightened-up (Racing Dynamics strut-brace also doing its actual job now) stance has lent an air of precision and a more-communicative front end. Before, the car would be somewhat 'floating' around the road and any harsher undulations and potholes would serve up some unwelcomed crashiness within the long suspension travel (even on the stock 16" wheels). Now, what with the weight lowered into the road and the nose more planted, most bumps are negotiated over and through with an almost bullish 'show-me-what-ya-got' manner. At times almost gliding over the surface of the road. The tramlining is a bit more predominant now, but in my eyes/hands, that's a rather minor consequence. The stock SLS system also loyally performed its duty by slightly adjusting the rear...

Now though, more than ever before, I am sorely tempted to spend the (easily) $2500+ in swapping the tranny to a manual...

I am determined to bag a shot of the 6er underneath these trees one (really) late evening...

p.s.- And btw, these pics I posted were purely for the purpose of sharing my gradual progress and regrowth of/with the 6er... no comments are sought-after nor required...

Cheers.

hey buddy, I was complimenting your car. Has this board degraded so much that any comment has to be assumed to be an insult?

May I ask where you purchased your parts from, and roughly what you paid?

Any snags or other issues you encountered along the way?

Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have been hoarding parts for my shark since I purchased her but too busy to install; so I know your feeling! Must feel good to actually get something done!

I have been purchasing from Arizona Autohaus and Bavauto... I used to hold AA in high regard but recently the stuff I got was BRUTAL CHINA knockoffs... STAY AWAY FROM A COMPANY CALLED 'MTC'. I had no other choice for a centerbearing and air boot; and I am very sad I did not make a third order from pelican.

My 6'er does indeed need a new suspension! The SLS has already been deleted; so I am still trying to figure if that is good or bad.

We should take the sharks for a swim one day!

Looking proper mean. I love those trees, I wonder if the eerie lighting is a direct result of your camera/film combo, or if a similar lighting effect can be achieved if the said scene was shot with a dslr.... HMM

Ryan,

Funnily enough, the best deal I found for the H&Rs (with an honest UPS shipping-rate to Canada) was through a reputable Ebay seller...I think I paid around $215 plus $30 in shipping fees. The best part was that they were mis-shipped to Alberta by UPS themselves. So, when they finally showed up a week later, they were dropped off at my work by a UPS driver with no fees/taxes attached...! ...and I was all ready to clear them/pay the taxes by myself through my work anyways...

I've done the majority of my parts purchases for the 6er through BavAuto. I just have them shipped to Blaine WA. Honestly, that's the only online place I've purchased my 6er parts from thus far. The Dealership came through on a few choice (smaller) pieces here and there though. Mike and Ryan @ Nixon have also provided some much-appreciated assistance and help in the parts dept. over the past couple of years too...

Luis,

Hmm.... I couldn't offer up any useful comments. I'm an old-school fart-bag. Maybe MikesJo has some more experience with low-light, vignetting-effected, grainy photos with a DSLR...?

FastBMW: All good my friend... online-sarcasm (intended or not) is always a dodgy sequence of confusing misinterpretations... !

Wow that looks good, Wise decision, it looks meaner like that and "very" sporty.
Maybe picking up a Getrag 265 and tucking it away for the future might be wise. Parts are getting hard to find my friend. Thanks for the great shots, what neighbourhood is that Blake?

Looks great! Love the lower stance, but how's the ride? My 89 M5 unmodified rides better than my 92 M5 with HK's. The 92 looks better with the lower stance, but much stiffer ride. I must be getting old. Also How much is a pristine 88 M6, worth? I can get one out of Japan, looks mint, but I am afraid, I don't know how much to bid, hows the market for M6's?
