So, you think you're on top of the world because you just picked up a brand new M5. You've got all the options and you're cruising down the road, just looking cool and impressing people left and right. Well, if you live in Moscow, your M5 will look like a late 1980s Toyota Tercel compared to the gold-plated M5 that's rolling around town.

An enterprising Moscow resident decided that he needed to separate himself from the pack, so he plated his M5 with gold. He hasn't told people how much this costs, but let's just assume it was a lot. And, whatever the initial cost, I'm assuming he'll also have to pay a security detail to look after the car at all times. I mean, if you're poor and see this thing sitting in a parking lot, one little scraping off a door could feed your family for a week.

Oh, and in case you were worried that a gold-plated BMW wasn't ostentatious enough, the car has a chrome racing stripe. Check out all the pictures in the M5 Gallery.

A quick add-on: BMWs aren't the only cars getting the gold treatment in Russia. Here's a gold-plated Porsche. The owner was trying to sell it and he let a prospective buyer take it out for a test drive. The potential buyer did a couple laps of the block, then took off, stealing the car.

The owner used about 20 kg of gold to plate the car and is apparently dumb because he let some guy who saw the car on the internet come and drive it.
