Go To The Hospital In Style With An X6

X6 Ambulance

The RETTmobil Rescue Vehicle Show is taking place in Germany soon, and BMW has a vehicle ready: an X6 outfitted as an ambulance. The model is an X6 xDrive50i with a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 that has 407 horsepower. There aren't very many details available about what sort of equipment this model would be able to carry to an accident scene, but it is supposed to be a first responder vehicle. For example, the powerful X6 could race across town with a doctor or paramedic onboard and they could stabilize or help an injured person on scene while a full-sized ambulance made its way to the scene (there's nowhere near enough space to transport a patient lying down in the back, unless that patient is a small child).

It seems a bit odd that BMW would even entertain the notion of such a vehicle. First of all, the only areas that would be able to afford an X6 Ambulance would have to have a fairly high population that would contribute enough tax dollars. The only areas I can think of like that would be larger cities that would have enough traffic to negate the X6's speed abilities with traffic lights, intersections, and so on, where the driver would have to slow down in order to avoid causing another accident. Plus, government certifications for ambulances tend to take a while, so by the time it's approved, the X6 will probably be on another generation, meaning that the process would have to begin anew, or BMW would need separate production facilities that would stick with the current-generation platform.
