Post RS35 BiTurbo Tuner 3-Series Model

RS35 BiTurbo
Milan-based Racing Dynamics, also known as RDSport, has unveiled the details of their new tuner version of the 335i coupe. What did they come up with? Essentially, the RS35 BiTurbo is an M3 with a souped up inline 6-cylinder engine and more torque. That sounds like something to get behind. The big technical changes were in the engine's electronics and air flow. In order to make a turbocharged 6-cylinder produce similar power to the 4.0-liter V8 from the M3, some changes were needed.

The use of a more efficient intercooler, paired with a larger intake provided the necessary air and cooling that allowed the to be boosted. An array of sophisticated electronic controls oversee the whole operation, ensuring that the fuel mixture remains at the ideal level for maximum performance. In all, the RS35 produces 414 bhp (same as the current M3) and 404 lb-ft of torque, whic blows away the stock M3's 295 lb-ft rating. The original specs of the 335i coupe's turbocharged inline 3.0-liter six-cylinder are 300 bhp and 300 lb-ft of torque.

As far a enhancements to the bodywork are concerned, Racing Dynamics made quite a few changes. The front bumper is of carbon fiber construction and features the aforementioned larger intakes. There are deeper side skirts and a revised rear apron that fits around dual two-pipe exhaust. There is also a rear roof spoiler to maximize downforce. The car rides on 20-inch wheels (up from the standard 17-inch wheels), but the RS35 is actually an inch closer to the ground in the front and just shy of an inch lower in the back.

The interior also gets the requisite changes, including machined aluminum pedals, aluminum accents on some interior components (like the shifter), and a smattering of the Racing Dynamics logos. There has been no pricing announcement yet.

I was able to find one rear shot.

As far as the fascia, I'm kind of ambivalent. It doesn't reach out and demand my attention, but it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb either. Meh...

from the same company that re-badged a Hartge H50 at the 2001 Essen motor show?...

This was a press release from Hartge:

At the Essen Motor Show, Michael Lauer, Managing Director of both Racing Dynamics and VDAT (Association of German Tuners), presented his latest creation with the exciting name 'R 50 Tornado V8'.

The entire development took just a week. All that was necessary was to borrow a HARTGE H50 from a customer for a fee of DM 10,000.00, remove the HARTGE chassis number plate, cover the chassis number stamped on the bodywork with an adhesive tape* and then replace all visible HARTGE parts with Racing Dynamics accessories. The engine was quickly given an additional 50 bhp by the laying-on of hands. And a phenomenon was ready, the like of which "has never before been seen in the tuning sector", as Mr. Lauer claims in his web site. But that's not all: on the same page, he even promises to "intensify this practice in the future."

To generate an appropriate degree of international attention, a Mr.Tücherer, a tuning poet well-known for his automotive entertainment literature, was called in to capture the phenomenon in prose and pictures. The resulting virtual test report was then sold to unsuspecting magazines, such as BM World in France and BMW Car in England.

For this miracle of modern tuning, Mr. Lauer will receive two distinctions: a warning about illegal practices from my lawyer and, without doubt, a golden pin of honour with diamonds from VDAT (Association of German Tuners) at the end of the year.
