Hamann Readies 2009 7-Series Tuner Package

BMW Hamann 7-Series

Laupheim, Germany-based auto tuning company Hamann is readying a new package for the 2009 BMW 7-Series. Hamann specializes in BMW, Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini models. The company already has numerous BMW-based models, including the 120d, the Z4 Roadster, the 325i Coupe, the HM 5.2 based on the 645 Ci, and the Flash, based on the X5.

While details are scant on what will be featured for the new 7-Series package in terms of performance, the company has confirmed that the body enhancements will include a rear roof spoiler, a trunk spoiler, side skirts, and dual two-tailpipe exhaust. The previous Hamann 7-Series model, the HM 7.1 provides clues, however. Based on the E66 760Li, the HM 7.1 featured increased engine displacement (a 7.1-liter V12 over the original 6.0-liter), 510 bhp over the original 439, and 728 Nm of torque (536 lb-ft) over the original 600 Nm (440 lb-ft). The HM 7.1 was able to hit 0-to-60 mph in under 5 seconds and had a top speed of 194 mph.

The new Hamann 7-Series model will probably feature comparable upgrades to power, but the engine has not been decided on yet (or at least not announced). The new 7-Series does not have a 760i model yet and the largest enine option is a V8. BMW has said that a V12 model will be introduced within the first year of F01/02 7-Series production, so if Hamann waits for that, it could be another year and a half before the tuner model comes out.
