| newbie | 6ers down under G'day All, I'm new to the forum and I really like how this place is all about classics. Where I come from 'classic car' means 'something always keeps breaking...', but nonetheless I wouldn't have it any other way! I have an '86 635CSi and a '77 633CSi. The 635 has been mine for just on one year, the 633 I've had for around 15 years. I've got a good bunch of 6er driving mates down here and we get together for cruises every couple of months or so. Its great to spend time with like-minded people, just like the people making up forums such as this one, and there's nothing like having a fleet of 6ers in your rear-view mirror. This is the '86 635, I call it Filthy... ![]() ![]() This is the '77 633, I call it Moneybags... ![]() ![]() These are from a recent cruise around the NSW Southern Highlands area... ![]() ![]() And these are from a couple of get-togethers last year... ![]() ![]() Regards, Ellis. | newbie | Thanks very much fellas, I appreciate the welcome. Reseda Green is correct. For about the first ten years of ownership I didn't know the actual name for this colour green, so I'd been going with Moneybags Green instead, in that pretentious, cashed-up BMW way (strictly tongue-in-cheek I assure you!) The chrome wheel arches have their fans and their critics, but they've been on this car since before I owned it and I couldn't imagine it without them. They don't suit all cars, but I think they work okay on a lighter metallic vehicle like this one, they accentuate the car's factory chrome and they are more suited to this model's E12-based narrower fenders. The brown car is actually Nerzbraun (Mink Brown), colour code 212. I have seen pics of Zobelbraun sixers and they look pretty much identical in colour, but I've not seen another Nerzbraun BMW of any model yet, so if you know of any I'd love to see one! My mechanic says he's seen some 7 Series' in this colour, but not recently (ie. not since the 80s). This car's full name is Filthy Rich Brown, following the tradition set by my ever faithful Moneybags Green. And thank you for the offer of parts assistance Mark, I appreciate it and will keep you in mind. E24s are somewhat rare down here so the second-hand parts market is extremely limited. Obviously new stuff is available, but very very pricey (there's a 75% import tariff on auto parts here, so BMW tell me anyway...!) However, owning these cars, especially Moneybags, has become significantly easier and more rewarding since the growth of the Internet and ebay. Again, for about the first ten years of ownership of the green car I had one workshop manual covering all BMWs from 78 thru 88 given to me by the previous owner with which to work through basic mechanical issues, but since sites such as bigcoupe etc have come about, a whole new world has opened up in terms of knowledge and resources. And its great to meet people with a passion for these older cars. Speaking of parts, the main thing I need to replace on the brown car is the dash. This one has a lot of cracks in it (not uncommon in these cars I know). I've never come across a spare right-hand drive dash here in Australia, let alone a brown one, and I realise your market is left-hand drive, but that's the main thing I need so if you know if any let me know! Regards, Ellis. |
