E28 with water leak on passenger floor!

Ok well ive read and tested all the drains i know of. All four sunroof drains, both underhood sides of the wiper/blower compartment. They all drain well. Is there drains around heater box? if so where?. Ive seen some evidence of water leaking from the far corner of the firewall, around the glovebox mount, could have just been condensation. I dont think its a door panel/vapour barrier issue. The first place i noticed it in summer, was out the speaker grill in the kickpanel. Thanx for any help

swimmin in e28 soup (I still love it)

Nate

Windshield is leaking, or sunroof drains....but since you said the sunroof drains are clear...

get a friend to pour mass amounts of water on your car with a hose. as you lay inside of it watching all the nooks and crannies. then you can locate where exactly its coming from. is it just the floor that gets wet, or the seats as well. if its the seats then its the sunroof. if not, its probably leaking into the glove box then dripping to the floor.

Gonna go with... TADA...windshield seal leak.

You also might want to check and make sure there's no water getting into/onto your ECU in the glove box,it can lead to "issues".

That is definitely a concern (ecu rinse), the glovebox is dry as is ecu for now. I definitely think it is the windshield seal, i looked and on the bottom corner looking through the glass i could see alot of condensation there. and nowhere else as much. u think a bead of good marine silicone around the inner part of the seal/gasket will do it?

You could use some kind of silicon caulking around where the glass meets the window seal. But the water might be coming up from underneath where the bottom of the seal meets the body work, then the caulking would have to go there too.Could look pretty ghetto depending on how steady your hand is and what colour you use.

Alternatively, you could get a new seal for about 70.00 from these guys http://www.bimmerspecialist.com/cana...x/bmw?shop=can and have a glass shop replace the old one and just be done with it.

Don't forget various sources of water leaking into the trunk. The water can migrate forward and collect in that big foam block in the passenger foot well.

Oh shit i didnt even think about the sunroof being open. lol, i dont mind the e28-e30 change. e30s are overrated. jk all. The trunk and floor in the backseat are dry. A new windshield seal is on the way from conneticut. 75 shipped. less than half of the stealership.

I think your sunroof is opened due to which you are facing the problem ,get it checked before it converts into a serious problem.

Did you check the work by getting the hose down action done it so you are fo sho fo sho it's all good? I have the same problem on my 83 528e, it puddles up on the right side of the windshield/ seal. What can happen as water leaks down, can affect the central control unit for the power locks(locks work intermittently), I experience this we live in BC, lots of rain! rain! rain! but glad to hear you have it fixed some what, winter will be the ultimate testing ground!
