Sounds like the fan. They're prone to death.

Depending on if my 323i has a Behr, or a Sofica heater box, I may have one. $50

The fan type is dependant on the manufacturer of the heater box itself. That is either Behr, or Sofica. Bosch makes the motors, to fit either Behr or Sofica. Makes sense?

I can't remember if E28 is the same as E30. Check on ETK to be sure.

Are you going to the meet on Sunday? If you are, and this motor works, I can pull it tomorrow, and bring it with me on Sunday.

I have a bosch working spare from an 81 320i. But I think it too is smaller than the one in the e28. LMk if it works and you need it. Sometimes I've gotten blower motors to work with just a darn good cleaning if the brushes aren't too far gone. Dunno if that helps.

Yeah thanks anyways al, mine from tip of fan to tip of fan is 11 inches, so if urs is the same it should work. Mine burnt up so i think its more than bushings.

The problem is different size squirrel cages. Behr and Sofica, sadly do not interchange.

If you want one to play with, I have nearly new E32 heater fan. It came from a Behr box, but the cages are HUGE. You'de need to swap the fans, at a minimum.

Yup That's the one I got. I pulled it out of my parts closet after work to check for you this aft. Wow is it dirty, I'll clean it up tomorrow and post a pic if you are still hunting and want to be sure it's the one.

BTW the cages on the e21 blower are held on by a tiny allen plug and are actually pretty easy to swap. Dunno about the e28.

Well thanx for the help guys i found a 633csi parts car same year '83 in chilliwack though so got to take the e21 for my first highway tear ran beautifully.

So it had the right one, just installed (partially its rainy and dark), works in all 3 speeds smooth and quiet. Getting the alignment is a little tricky, but itll be easy in the light of day. Excellent e28 day, no atf drips (so far), and defrostable windshield im happy.

Thanx boys,

Nate
