| Senior Member | ticking on the shifter on a 5 speed e28 533i i have an old 533i it just started ticking on the shifter on first gear pretty much all the time, and slightly in second. As well, hopefully related my right rear side thumps on full load, not right away but a ways into a gear. shocks are good, seemed like the differential or cv. any help would be appreciated. Where to fill tranny fluid is there a filler cap on the top? i saw the drain plug. |

The rear thump can be: sub-frame mounts, or diff mount The filler plug for the transmission is on the right side, about half way up. You will need a 17mm hex to open the fill plug and the drain plug. Always open up the fill plug first, because if you can not open the fill plug and the transmission is empty you have a real problem.

| Senior Member | I just had a short shifter installed, its possible that it rubs on the driveshaft?, good call on the subframe mounts i think thats very probable, read that on a mechanics note, on one of the folder of receipts. lol, Thanx canuck. Its a great car otherwise, you leaning away from the flex disc? |

Very likely the short shift kit is rubbing the drive shaft.

Poon's pictures | Shocka, A little OT but how did you shorten your bumpers on your 320i? Did you just drill them and then compress them in? -Andrew

| Senior Member | yes i drilled them in a couple places, after taking the bumper off. The old hydraulic fluid comes out with vengeance, so be careful. Then just compressed them with my back against a wall and both feet pushing. get them in as far as you can, then put a screw in the hole that works out perfect. In the 533 it was low pressure oily foam? was continually waiting for the big squirt. |
