1986 M535i

Checkou' my new ride!
It's an 1986 M535i originally from Japan, 115K KM, sport cloth interior, 10:1 M30 with a cat, sport auto, moonroof... the 17"x8" ACT Ronal wheels are a little too wide with 225 rubber on them, I'll have to roll the fenders a bit to enjoy hard-cornering.

5-speed swap is in the future, though I'm concentrating in just getting the car back in tip-top running form. It's night and day with the e30, but in a good way. Hope to park both in my driveway one day.

Wow...so so nice.

I have to ask...where did you find this?! How did this one slip under my Bimmer-radar?! (seriously, know where I could find one?)

I'm quite happy for you. I'd really like to own a clean, well-kept E28 Euro M5 one day...

Just curious, what attention does it need?

Once again, excellent purchase. I'm quite jealous, in a good way.

Two days after I decided I was going to sell the e30 and started cruising the market for an e28 this beast dropped in my lap on CList! It was Nov 1 or so... then I made a contract to close on it on Dec 1, found the wheels a week or two later for a song.
Then Al Canuck made a list... It needed cat/muffler, plugs/wires, fuses, new wheels (15" basketweaves with a high offset were just not going to cut it on this car) and new tires, O2 and coolant sensor... this week she'll get a new stereo, new cluster glass, and some poking around to fix some fresh air ducting issues. Overall she's fairly rust free, dash is great, one tear on the drivers seat.
Overall I think it's the best looking e28 style out there, and the engine's power is half way between the 535is and the M5... and I think a comparable M5 would have cost me twice as much... I'm pretty damned lucky.
cheers,
c a r t e r

If you ever felt you wanted more power, you could turbo it as I believe it has an essentially M30 engine.

Very cool car, Carter. As a genuine M535, this is one of the lowest-produced BMW's ever, if I remember right, and a real collectible. As such, it should qualify for a collector plate. Was this a private purchase, or from a dealer?

Thanks Vince. There were about 10k made, with about 1500 headed for the Japan market. I think there are 12 in Canada (both Euro and Japanese). Collector's plates would be nice... just have to get a second car!
It was a private sale.
If anyone wants to know more about them this is a good link:

My car is an odd bird with the hi-compression engine and a cat.

Yeah, the wheels came from this board. They're in pretty good shape... couldn't say no.

PP - I'm unsure if this hi-compression (10:1) M30 would be good for a turbo... I think you want a lo-compression (8.5:1) for that. 220 hp is fine for now... it's a daily-driver and I think I'd want a 5-speed before more power.

their is no harm throwing about 4-6 psi of boost into that engine. You might get about 250-260 WHP if you do. I agree with you though I would get the 5spd swap done first.

Absolutle nice car and nice find. I am truly Jelous.

You gotta do the Euro headlight conversion. I think that looks so badass.
