| newbie | Running rough (sputtering) Two days ago I jump in my 1991 318is m and drive down the block normally shifting around 3-4000 rpm and all of a sudden the engine begins to sputter. it felt like a spark plug wire had come lose. I pulled over and checked the wires and they were fine but the car still sputtered. I ran to the parts store and bought new plugs but the problem still exist Its weird has anyone had a similar problem what should I do next |

Blackice's pictures | Have you had any luck on this one ? I have a similar problem with my car, but it is very random. Some days it runs perfect, and there is no way I can even try to make it act up. Other days it just wont go away. Do you have any more info about how this car is acting up ? Mine seems to be a rough on warm starts, more often then cold starts. It will go away if I restart the car, or if I put my foot to the floor, then it runs perfect again. My gut feeling is temp sensor, it makes the most sense..... I have yet to prove it |

| Had a similar problem with my e46. Turned out to be a split in the inlet bellows causing a vacuum leak which was giving the MAP [manifold absolute pressure] sensor a false signal [usually richens the mixture]. |

Lithium's pictures | Sounds like it's probably only running on four cylinders......
