| Member | water in gas tank Ok so I’m having some issues with my car. It’s a 86 325e with over 450km. I know it high but still run’s like new. Ok so here my issue, I was driving on the hwy in the rain when the car started to putter and jerk around and the idle was very extreme. I pulled off the hwy and the car just died. I kept trying to start it but nothing; it cranks but just won’t give. I thought it was the fuel pump that gave out so I replaced that as well as the fuel filter and nothing, just cranks but won’t give. I ended up getting the car towed to BimmerSport to get it diagnosed. Charlie the owner said that there is a lot of water in my gas tank and there are no leaks in the tank at all. I asked how it could have gone in there and he just said, maybe some one poured water in the tank, it happens, but that can’t be because I lock my car were ever I go and that locks my gas door as well. So he had no clue how the water got in there and I have no clue either, so he ended up taking all the water out and cleaning my injectors and now I am just paranoid to drive the car in the rain. Does anyone have any ideas why and how this happened, because I’m lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated |

| Senior Member | You could have a rust hole in the top of your tank, and while driving through puddles had it splash into your tank? Have you tank checked, |

Poon's pictures | Drain the tank, fill it up with fresh gas. If it has a leak, you will either smell gas, or else see it pouring on to the floor. Check the spout (where you put the gas in) for leaks. Possibly water is coming in through the gas flap area and entering through the fuel intake hose?

I think the problem is in alternator. But I am not sure.
