| Senior Member | 1987 325 Cabriolet? Hey guys, So i have a couple of questions. A friend of mine is about to pick up this AUTO 1987 325 Cabriolet. It is in decent condition is worth the money hes paying for it. But there is a problem, pretty much the bottom end of the engine is toast. Everything else in the car is good. So what i am thinking is...sell my friend the engine out of my totaled 525 to put in the e30. There would not be a problem putting this engine in? What other parts would we have to change to swap the AUTO to the 525`s tranny? What else should we worry about? Thank you. And here are some pics of the car ( Sorry for my friends shitty cell phone camera ) : ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Blackice's pictures | BMW offered 2 engines for the 1990 525i, a 12v and a 24v engine. This info from Wikipedia 525i 2494 cc I-6 12 125 kW (170 PS) @ 5.800 rpm 222 N·m (164 lb·ft) @ 4.300 rpm 221 km/h (137 mph) 1988 to 1990 M20B25 Sedan 525i 2494 cc I-6 24 141 kW (192 PS) @ 6.000 rpm 245 N·m (181 lb·ft) @ 4.700 rpm 230 km/h (143 mph) 1990 to 1992 M50B25 Sedan/Touring M20b25 The German version of the M20B25 produced 170 hp (130 kW) with a catalytic converter and 171 hp without. It featured the newly designed "885" head featuring larger ports and valves and an open, higher-volume combustion chamber design. The new engine had an 84 mm (3.3 in) bore, and 75 mm (3 in) stroke. The redesigned pistons and combustion chambers made better power, resisted detonation better and had higher thermodynamic efficiency. It was equipped with Bosch Motronic 1.1/1.3 Adaptive fuel injection. With a minor modification that adjusts the idle speed of a cold engine, the 325i fulfills Euro 2 emission requirements in Germany, resulting in a lower tax compared to Euro 1 (as of 2005). Applications: * 1986–1994 E30 3 Series * 1989–1990 E34 5 Series * 1988–1991 E30 Z1 So you have the 12 valve M20b25 ? If so It looks like it is the same engine they used in the 325i. |
