| newbie | Clutch Problems!! So I was driving home today and shifted down to fourth to pass a truck, and once I reached a good speed I shifted into fifth but it didn't engage so my rpm's were all over the place. I tried shifting back into fourth but still, no connection. Once I came to a stop I tried a few more times in 1st and reverse but still, absolutely nothing. Once the car was home I put it in our shop and checked it over. The fluid level for the clutch was still at maximum, and all the lines were fine. Next I took the slave cylinder off and tested it and it was also fine. When the clutch was still working it didn't slip at all but it was a little hard to push the clutch pedal in. I am now thinking my clutch is stuck in the out position but I'm not sure. If this is the case how can I get it to loosen up? Any help greatly appreciated! |

ryanferguson's pictures | i had a somwhat similar problem with my bimmer. turned out it was the tranny. first the gears would pop out and then it atarted grinding! it was the synchros. being a hydraulic clutch they self adjust but sometimes stick. does ur input bearing rattle in neutral? that could be the problem. |

| newbie | Well the new clutch is in(as of last week), and it was clearly the clutch as there was no 'padding' on it anymore, it was just metal..... It's so much easier to change gears now as well, with a new throwout bearing and new oil in the transmission. It was not hard at all to change, just very tedious because of the transmission bolt that goes to the starter six shooter, I believe I have the only e30 in town and I'm proud of it! |
