Exclamation 318i 1993 with m42 engine won't start? Help

Water pump needed to be replaced. removed and installed the new one. Went to start the engine and although there is spark on the plugs will not run. The battery did go dead on me before I got to replace the pump. Would the computer need reprgramming because of this? It also seems to be injecting way too much gas and flooding the engine seeping into the crankcase. Any ideas

thanks

More info please ....

Can you give us some more info about this ?

What things did you take apart ?

The ECU will not require re-programing. It does not work that way. So you can scratch that off you list. I would check all of the vacuum lines, and electrical conections first. Eliminate the things you had apart.

Get back to us with what you find.

All I took apart was the fan cowling, the fan blade, the fan clutch and then the pump. I did have to move the sensor above the pump as in the manual they said to remove the thermostat but that was it. I did measure the resistance of the sensor as in the manual to check if it was good and it did measure 1280 ohms so not sure apart from that. The thing I notice is the plugs do fire but not sure if they are consistant. The amount of gas being injected into the engine is definately more than it should be as it is flooding the engine and going into the oil pan which I did drain and ended up replacing the oil. So I'm very unsure of which direction to procede.

The sensor below the water pump is the crank position sensor. That is a key sensor to the ECU! Without a signal from that, the engine will not run. Check electrical connections and sensor again. Good luck !

Check spark and fuel, then go from there.

Well it is getting fuel buty I think to much as it has flooded the oil pan. Drained it and left the plug out to do a test to see how much was being sprayed in. Cranked it over just a little and there was lots draining from the oil pan. I did replace both sensors for timing (crank ETC) with no difference. I do note one of the sensor inputs has 5 volts but the other is 3.4 not sure if thats a problem.

Another idea I came across from a previous post. some one had left there car sitting for a few weeks then it would not start. He put a heater in the car for a while as he thought it might be condensation. then that cleared up his issue. Not sure if this is my problem but willing to try anything
