E21 buyers guide?

Hey guys,

I'm going to be taking a look at a 1980 320is to drive in the winter (so I can save my 2002 from rust) and I had a few questions.

What should I look for, especially in an e21? I know with 2002's rust is a big issue, but this thing has "recent Imola paint" and "no rust". No big deal if it has rust anyways, because it will be driven in the snow.

What parts are special to a 320is?

What parts can be used on a 2002. I know of the Recaro seats, LSD (need spacers though), and 5speed.

Anything else I should know about these cars? My dad has an '83 320i as a DD, so he'll be able to help me out with maintenance and stuff.

Thanks guys,
-Andrew Poon

Andrew,

We'll chit chat about E21's tomorrow when you come in. Doubtful that anyone else in this part of the world has ripped more E21's apart than I have! I know them very very very well.

That 323i on the island, is about to come over to the Mainland. Kirin and I snapped it up.

Bavarian Blue?

It is blue, and it on CL, but its just a parts car. Pretty rusty.

If you've got time I'd like to get the "full test" , compression and all.

Andrew, just by my old 74 '02 and drive it guilt free during the winter, just swap my pretty bits into your greenie, and the old stuff into the 74 car and drive off into the sunset.

Craig,

Craig,

I'm almost 100% sure I'm going to buy this car, especially for the LSD, but don't worry, I'm still definitely interested in buying those parts off you! With a '76 mintgrun, a '72, and my dad's '83 320i the more parts the merrier!
