Blackice's pictures | 298 on the clock. Clutch and chain done at 264.... I have a spare engine as well a spare head. So the question is, just do the Head Gasket ? Or do I build a new engine ? Anyone here done a HG on a M 42 ? What should I expect to see when I pull the head off this engine ? Re work the head, new gasket and bolt her up.... Or is there more to come ? |

dc42004's pictures | new engine, i've asked that question on at minute to minute basis. My DS had timing chain guide shatter all over the crack case/ timing case. it was barely running when i got it. the only thing that kept me from swapping is that the original car had done only 99 k miles. I jus purchased timing chain, sprocket, guide rail & water pump etc from BMV and parts itself cost over 600bucks jus to do R&R on the timing case stuff. I believe Tim still has his min 170k kms M42 up for grabs. If your engine doesn't run well to start with, dunt waste too much time + money to find out later that it needs more work. swap it out. I got quotes from shops that it would cost a grand or two( from a bmw specialized shops) jus for doing timing chain and water pump. I'm very curious about the condition of the car since I owned 2 DS 318is. Let me know when u get the baby home and I would love to check it out. Welcome to the DS invasion! Don |

I guess if u know it's only the head gasket and u've got other supporting evidence that the engine was kept well. And they stop driving it soon after head gasket is blown. It would be worthwhile jus doing the head gasket/ profile gasket, intake& exhaust manifold gasket. If u have the head off, u might jus take the head for some R&R. But then again, it would probably cost u about the same as if u jus swap in a lower km motor. it really depends on the current condition of the motor. | |

Blackice's pictures | I'm overwhelmed with envy... My job is done then ! ![]() Thanks for the kind words..... The car is much nicer then what I remembered.... I meet up with the guy, handed him some cash..... then went away for a few days with the family on the boat. I couldn't stop thing about the car all weekend! What will I do with the engine ?????? I just got back this evening, snapped a few photos and unpacked all the crap that we took with us. So I have not spent much time with the car yet, I just wanted to get the cash in his hands before he changed his mind. LSD ? Were they not standard equipment on the IS ? I sure hope it has a LSD ! That would be sweet ! |
