BMW Concept 1 Series tii

Many people think, wish, see the 1 Series as the spiritual successor to the E30 3 Series because of it's size/weight. The 135i is spoken of in the same terms as the E30 M3. I found this article that sounds more like hype than substance...

I love how the automotive hacks rewrite the Press releases...

Aaah, using the classic inspired-from-our-past-glories press techniques to 'wow' and impress the unknowledgeable car-buying public once again.

I don't know...digging out the old 'tii' sporting credentials and badging to emphasize your latest design exercise... ... seems a tad hokey to me. Put it on a scale, I want to see how much lighter it really is please...

Nothing will match or surpass the E30 M3 and its legendary mark on the sporting Automotive landscape. It's such an icon, and for good reason.

The latest EVO magazine has hit the shelves. Inside, is the greatest M-car ever shootout/test. I'd highly recommend it to those of us that are Classic BMW enthusiasts. A very good read with absolutely stunning photography...

Chapters, Wilkinson's, most of those tiny middle-of-the-Mall kiosks where they sell also sell a vast selection of gum.

You won't find it at 7/11, Mac's or most convenience stores. Also, tuck-in a few extra bucks as it is a UK mag, therefore it's a bit more expensive than our North American efforts....about $12-$13.99...depending on where you buy it from.

Tii? What a joke. Sort of like when they released the X5 4.8is, as if that behemoth had sporting pretenses.

Don't get me wrong, I love my E 30 but to drive one every day would take away that very special feeling when i drive the car. The 1 series coupe with a deisel turbo pushing 200 hp with all that torque would be a very viable driver. Yeah it's visually challenged - that rear end is gawd awful - but what new car doesn't have issues?

God, every time BMW comes out with a new small coupe, some journalistic hack makes the observation that it's the "spiritual successor" to the original 2002.

...Aaaand, I don't think there's such a thing as a 1966 2002, anyway. It would've been a 1600-2 or a 1602, no? Don't think 2002s appeared until '67 or '68.

66 was a 1600, 1602, or 1600-2. 68 was the launch of the 2002.

Hey Kyle, do you ever miss your 02? I've been without mine a couple years now, and I miss it sometimes. I'll get another one some day....

How's this pic to take you back, eh?

The 1 series appears to be one of the only new cars that I actually like. I'm looking forward to test driving one in the next few years when I might be able to actually afford one.

The tii 1 series looks silly though.

Now this is just silly. Pick a colour and be done with it.

Bold statement all right. It says "look at me! look at me!" Is this a BMW or a riced out Honda? sheesh

It's not an E30 tho lol. I still like it I'd buy it...

X5 4.8is is nice I dunno if you've driven that but It's the only SUV to put a smile on my face... I haven't driven the the Cayenne Turbo S...

yeah that cluster is ugly. Thankfully, the 135i has a normal black cluster.

It's not an e30 m3, no way.
The graphics, stripes, whatever they are, need to go.
Some other random bits that I'm not really fond of.

That said... I would take one in a heartbeat. I know a lot of it is clever marketing, but I like the concept.

MikesJo's pictures

I think the tach is designed that way to stick out when driving it at say an autox etc where you don't have much time to look down at the tach while manuvouring. The red on white with the larger #s help stand out and can be seen more clearly out of your peripheral vision. .

Sorta how some porsche drivers turn their tachs counter clockwise so the red line is at the 12 oclock position. This way they can tell when the needle gets close to 12 they're at their redline.

Sorry, not trying to get off-topic here but...

Why is it that I only ever hear, see and read of Porsche owners, specifically, performing this tach alteration...?

Puzzling...
