Why is it that I only ever hear, see and read of Porsche owners, specifically, performing this tach alteration...?

Puzzling...

Pretty simple, really. Porsche gauges(older 911's in particular), are laid out in a fashion where each gauge can be removed individually, and then plunked back in whatever position you want. MUCH harder to achieve with a car that has a proper instrument cluster. Note that many Porsches, as well as race cars with purpose built dashes use the same method. Ideally, you have a row of gauges, with ALL of the needles pointing at 12 when things are operating as they should be. Temp and pressure gauges are excellent expamples. In the heat of battle, you want to be able to glance QUICKLY at the dash, and see all your needles pointing up in the same position. Should one of them appear in some other spot, time to take a harder look.

I did this with my 73 Cuda when I put in some accessory gauges. Just the thing for that blast to work. What can I say, I was in my early 20's.

Hey, there she is! She was too beautiful for this crazy world. I hope someone is enjoying the Panasports. I loved that little car, but don't really get the itch to own another one. I've been too spoiled by modern amenities--like heat.
